Travel
Flights to Milan
- International flights to Milan Airports or to the Bologna airport.
- There are several airports in Milan, so they have more frequent flights and possibly cheaper ones, too.
Train to Reggio
- From Milan Centrale Train Station to Reggio Emilia:
- AV train station Mediopadana: about 40 minutes
- From Bologna Centrale Train Station to Reggio Emilia AV train station Mediopadana, about 20 minutes
Transportation in Town
- Train: From Reggio Emilia AV train station Mediopadana to City Centre: taxi 13 euros; shuttle bus 1,50 euros. The shuttle bus stops right opposite the Hotel Mercure
- Rental Cars: No need to rent one! Reggio is quite small (you can walk across it all in 20 minutes) and transports are good and reliable
- Bus: Bus n. 5 stops in the nearby square (50 metres). To go from the Hotel Mercure to the University, we cross diagonally the city centre and it takes about 20 minutes of gentle and slow walking – window shopping included.
Hotels and Stays
Each attendee is responsible for booking their own accommodations. Most years, we attempt to stay in the same hotel, however, in this area it is difficult. Rooms go fast and not easy to secure in one space.
- Following are updated suggestions, and a list of reasonable places to stay.
- The further from the university the less expensive the rooms; there are buses everywhere and it will not take long to get there by bus.
- All hotels are in walking distance under 2 k to the university.
- Booking a hotel should be done soon. All of them guarantee cancellations or changes up until 1-2 weeks, so there is no hazard in booking rooms soon.
- This is a small city and rooms are important to book asap.
- Costs vary in each hotel.
- These are all excellent places to stay.
Options
If you are interested in sharing a room with 2 or 3 beds, please let us know and we will create an email to all who wish to share a room/apartment.
- Hotel Mercure, Viale Leopoldo Nobili 2—Facing a park in the City Centre (full room costs for this hotel can be found on Page 6 of the emailed packet). Prices will increase as rooms are booked, so we suggest you book soon. This hotel has 30-35 rooms. If you book on their website with the Accor Card you get a 5% discount.

- Hotel Posta, Piazza del Monte, 2
- Hostel, Ostello della Ghiara, City Centre —Shared bedrooms & bathrooms.
Meals
- Breakfast: All hotels, etc. have a breakfast or an option to order breakfast. We have found it much cheaper to just go down the street to the myriads of bakers to buy food inexpensively for breakfast. Many of the hotels will add cost for breakfast which is often very high.
- IMPORTANT: the University does not have a Cafeteria, but there are several bars and cafés outside (about 50 metres) and a wonderful piazza (Piazza Fontanesi) with many restaurants and cafés nearby within 200 metres.
Airbnb
This may be much less money than the few hotels. I booked one for less than $100 ca for 2 persons. Some of the apartments can take 4 people as well.
Airbnb shows distance to the university when looking for rooms) Free cancellation a week or so before the event.
